# Abstraction

Capital deposited into VDEXCore remains on the destination chain in [isolated vaults](/ecosystem/virtual-vault.md). Corresponding balance states are fungible and independent of the underlying chain.

This enables cross-chain trading, so that an Ethereum depositor can seamlessly trade against an Avalanche depositor withouat bridging. It further enables users to deposit collateral from multiple chains into one unified balance and withdraw profits on an entirely new chain.
